I have transferred a private plate a number of times. If you sell a car with a private plate to someone, you are totally in their hands as to whether they will honour the agreement to return the plate to you. This can be risky, especially as they will have to find the £105 required by the DVLA! Far better to transfer it yourself, first. Although the DVLA may tell you it can take 6 weeks, in my experience it only takes about half that time, especially if you visit their nearest office yourself. |
