I think we should adopt the american idea, overtake/undertake wherever you like and if theres someone in fromt of you that is annoying SHOOT THEM

I'm siding with Lidl here. Drive sensibly and legally. Don't leave yourself open to unnecessary blame in the event of an accident.

I hate it when someone either cuts you up or makes you slam on your brakes, you beep your horn and then they either give you sh*t or wind the window down and give you the w*nker symbol....that really pis*es me off.

Just to keep on topic, I wish to say the obvious, "Two wrongs don't make a right".
I understand the nerve grating annoyance of sitting behind some pratt who refuses to move over to his left to allow you to pass, but no one ever got killed following one of these people.
The day you see the aftermath of an accident caused by someone undertaking will be the last time you ever consider such an action.

Think of it this way, if people don't hog the middle/fast lane, then there'd be no need to undertake. So if you hated undertakers more, move over.

Ok lets throw a spanner in the works. Undertaking.....according to the law(who don't know let from right, let alone right from wrong) undertaking is dangerous, a taboo whatever. An expirenced rally driver close friend of mine has always said never drive to 10/10's, at the very most drive 9/10 of your ability and the cars ability, always make sure you have a way out. If you move right to the fist lane to over take a middle lane hogger and they decide to move over right, for what ever reason in their 'infinate' wisdom, aswell then you have no where to go other then slam your anchors on, hit the central reservation, hope you can get past in time or move back to the middle lane also hoping no-one is there.
Lets say you moved left insead, and the middle lane hog decided they would move left aswell, again for what ever reason, you then have one more option, which would not be illegal as you were avoiding an accident as best you could. you could either brake down to their speed, move back to the middle lane hoping no-one was there, OR jump to the hard shoulder where (provided you were paying the attention you should be) you know no-one is in it, and the chances of someone coming up behind you faster then you is slim-to-none.

Im not condoning undertaking, or using the hard shoulder. (as said in my other posts) But if it keeps you, your passengers and other drivers unharmed and another statistic for the government to try and twist then surely a situation like that allows evasive manouvers such as using the hard shoulder to be accepted.

I just dont understand why motorway driving isnt compulsory in the normal lessons & tests. I believe thats a really useful skill to learn than most while learning for most people.

I never had a problem with going straight onto motorways after my test. But I know some people who are scared to death of it or just dont understand how to drive properly on motorways. Even ones that still do it & know the rules but they dont feel confident on the motorway & start making stupid mistakes because of that. Then there sthe people that just arent used to the speed things move on the motorway.

I can understand why its difficult for most people so I dont see why its not part of the normal driving test

One of my ex's was the type that was terrified of going on the motorway alone - she wouldnt do it without me in the car with her to help - I basicaly had to teach her how to do it & not to panic. She eventually got it after a couple of goes & a few miles but it should be taught properly in the lessons & test.

alot of things arent taught on the test though to be fair, like parking lol

TBH I have started undertaking when everyone moves into the outside lane to overtake a slow driver, resulting in everyone creeping past just slightly faster than said slow driver! I take this to be a traffic jam and therefore undertaking is ok. If people stayed in the inside lane until they need to overtake, it would cause fewer problems.

Or if people read the highway code and travelled at the highest possible speed given the road conditions and speed limit, but when is that likely to happen?
