The major beneficiaries of the Government's scrappage scheme, which began on May 19, include Hyundai, whose sales rose 91pc to 5,265, Kia, which rose 61pc to 4,945, Nissan, up 9pc, and Ford, the best-selling brand in the UK, up 4pc to 29,803.
Hyundai's performance, led by its small cars the i10, i20, and i30, propels the South Korean group into the top five UK car brands, above the likes of Volkswagen, Fiat and Peugeot, in terms of private sales.
The company has sold more models than anyone else in the scrappage scheme and Tony Whitehorn, the UK managing director, said the impact on sales had been “incredibleâ€
