This may be an old scam, but theres a lot of it going on in my area at the moment, and Police have been putting warnings up, the scam is as follows

1- You advertise your car on autotrader/ad trader etc

2- You get a phone call from someone claiming to be a finance company, and that someone has applied for finance to buy your car, but didn't want to waste your time by looking at it until they were sure they can get finance.

3- Phoney finance company ask for a deposit to sell your car, refundable if THEY sell the car, however if you or another company sells the car, you loose this deposit.

4- Pretty obvious here, they never sell the car for you, if you ring and ask about the mystery buyer they say he's got a bad credit rating, and they couldn't give him the money.

My missus was stupid enough to fall for this, and thats £80 she won't see again, and thats £80 someone has made for a 5 min phone call!
