Yea they definitely break down on a regular basis, my last one Id had for about a week and had to replace the back brakes, all the brake hoses, and the suspension struts had started to leak!

As well as the fact that my clutch was amazingly stiff as the cable on the phase 3 306's goes past the exhaust manifold (I think thats the part) on the back of the engine so it dries the cable out, hence, stiff clutch.

None of them liked it when I pointed out that the air-con actually works on the coupe as well....

i hope it was the new swift!thats ok but not the old one.my friend had a jap import one.....the less said the better

i actually liked the 306 shape, v pretty and the XSi and GTi6 models were stunning.having said that if wanted a car that would break down by an alfa.least u will look cool then!

Thats rich coming from them! French cars are notrious for reliability issues and personally I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole but each to their own.

Regarding Hyundai, everyone I have ever spoke to about owning one have either had one themselves with no problems or know someone that has had one with no problems. Hyundai seem to be quite proud of their 5 year warranty and they should be. They must be confident in their build quality otherwise they wouldn't offer it, as the last thing they want after selling a car is customers coming back with problems, complaints and possible bad press or damage to reputation. I have found for a cheap Korean car company the coupe at least feels very solid, and has a very similar feel inside to japanese performance cars I have owned and driven in the past.

The V6 sounds especially good, but even the 2.0 sounds suprizingly nice. I was out for a drive last Sunday not too far from here and was pleasantly surprized at how nice my engine sounded echoing through those thin country lanes.

I think if I had bourght a Celica I would have still loved it, but I wanted a Tiptronic and would have had to get an import, as Toyota never made a Uk Auto/Semi Auto mk7 Celica. I was looking at import insurance, import parts - the cost and problems getting hold of them and the Coupe just made so much more sense. Cheaper to service/repair/insure and easier to find parts for. That and the fact that I have always wanted a gen 3 ever since I sat in a brand new one 6 years ago in a main dealer and knew it was the car for me. I finally got mine 2 months ago and havn't looked back.

i had a 306 1.6 xss P reg with 10200 miles for my first car! i loved it. i only had 1 proplem with it, it didnt last the evening, it was a write off after 100 miles.
