Ok, so I thought id do a test and try out my car with premium fuel instead of the normal stuff!!

As a test i topped up £60 worth of normal fuel, then £60 premium fuel... both from a Shell garage!

Normal Fuel - £60 (107.9p a litre) - this got me approx. 300 miles
Premium Fuel - £60 (115.9 a litre) - this got me approx 330 miles

Rough calc's show that with premium fuel im getting about 29 MPG, and only 24.5 MPG of the standard stuff - really didnt expect that much of a difference!!

This means that premium fuel (Shell Optimax) is costing me 18p per mile...
The normal stuff is costing me 20p per mile...

I know its only 2p a mile, but on the 6000 miles i do a year, thats a saving of about £118!!

Anyone else noticed anything like this?

I know which i'll be filling up with from now on!!

so the super unleaded is better than normal unleaded at MPG. thats quite suprising!!

The theroy is the fuel cleans your injectors and such so it should imporve too, however it is possible you have experienced the "placebo effect" and drove differently or let it run down more...

Did the car feel any different between the 2 fuels?

And by just quickly looking at that, in theory you would get more miles out of the premium again woundt you, because your obviosly getting more fuel for £60 with normal compared to premium?

Would be worth trying it filling up with the same amount in litres, rather than price...

Could be a more accurate comparsion with mpg etc...

The car feels slightly smoother & seems to accelerate more freely.... which could back up what LiDL is saying about cleaning the injectors. The cleaner the injectors, the smoother the engine will run?

Might be worth trying £60 of Normal Fuel and seeing if MPG has improved

What i meant was, there is a greater amount of fuel with £60 worth of unleaded compared to the £60 of premium...

so the results would end up being different again if you used the same amount of fuel in litres rather than in price...

make much more sense now? lol

Point taken about there being different amounts of fuel, but what i did was used the £60 i paid, divided that by the price per litre to give me the number of litres i put in.

from there i could work out the miles per gallon & also the costs
