Hi peeps, my current mobile contract is coming to an end and I'm looking for ideas and suggestions on what phone to go for next. My options with orange so far are:

i-Phone 3GS 16G with 1200 anytime minutes, Unlimited internet and 500 text on a 24 month contract - £44 per month and phone is free

OR

Sony Ericsson Satio with same usage as above but no internet bundle on an 18 month contract for £24 per month and phone is £26 (one off payment)

I currently have a Sony Ericsson C905 which is OK, great camera but had a lot of teething problems (i'm on my 3rd handset) so don't know if i want another Sony Ericsson especially one with the old style touch screen. I really want an i-phone but I'm not prepared to pay £44 a month and be tied into a 2 year contract.

So, what other types of similar phones are out there just now, more i-phone type than Sony Ericsson that guys on here could recommend?

ill be the 1st to admit i get a phone on weather it looks nice........but ive got a white n97 and yes its poo hot and looks good........... but damn frig me its slow!!!!! im typing away while the phones playing catch up. and u cant drop it, oh no, f*** NO..... it doesnt like a hard life

I have a Nokia E71, great phone and the package I have gives me unlimited text's, unlimited internet and 200 mins for £20 per month.

will second that fella, enough extra stuff that you'll want no more, not so much crap that you cant make a simple call anymore.

ive just got the nokia 5800 chrome music edition, all touch screen got loads of gear on it and got a great deal from tmobile, £30 a mnth gets ya 800mins (18mnth contract) or 1000 mins (24mnth contract) both with unlimited txts and unlimited internet so you can keep an eye on the forum even if ya away from home

I've got an SE Xperia X1 (which is actually made by HTC and branded SE) and it's never let me down. Only downsides are windows mobile & poor camera.

ive got the iphone and like its previously been said it is 1 of the best gadgets going.....you will never be bored if you get one

but the calling is a bit ropey...3g plays up a bit...some texts take like 20 mins to come thru which is frustrating if u need some info....im on o2 and the coverage isnt the best either!

yeah my mate got that when it first came out. he was very happy with it at first but got board quick then moved on to an iphone. the camera is very good but the touch screen isnt as responsive as the iphone or hero. thats aside i think you will be very happy with that choice. and because its been out a while you get the cheaper line rental. not a bad move there mate.

not got that phone but got the pixon. never had a problem with samsungs, cameras are good plus they're a solid phone. dropped mine a couple of times still works perfect.

Well, I've had my I-phone for 3 days now and I've got to admit, it's worth every penny. Easy to use, very responsive, very fast for internet browsing and I can even put up with the rubbish camera. I absolutely love this phone and I honestly don't think I'll ever change it. I don't think any other phone can touch the i-phone and if they improve the camera with a flash then it will be the ultimate phone.

Did have a samsung tocco and today received a samsung s8000 jet. Anyone using these? any good?
