As some of you may know by reading my signature I have been after discs and pads on the back of my 1.6 to replace those god awful drums ... Anyway yesterday we started this project and yesterday we finished this project and thank fully no arguments broke out between Me and Dad

This is what we had to swap: (We did the whole lot as we didn't want to risk knockin the tracking out etc.

Surely I must have one of the only 1.6 Gen2's in the country with disk and pads on the back? Anyone know of any others?

Was looking at doing this for my 1.6.

How long did it take ya? and how much money did ya spend on it?

it is actually ridiculously easy to do, find yourself a 2litre Gen1 or Gen2, take the two bolts out of the axel, the three out of the traack control arm (where it bolts to the chassis), undo the three nuts at the top of the suspension legs and then disconnect the anit roll bar, before you drop it just disconnect the handbrake inside the car, un-bolt that from the car and then drop it off (do save the brake lines from the 2litre though as they are different too the 1.6)

Can't comment on price as did all the work meself with me Dad and didn't put it in the garage, price of parts not a clue either as it cost me nothing as Dad was breaking his 2litre anyway

It took us a day to do, but we already had the axel off the 2litre ready and waitin ... may take you a weekend to do tops though

Seems simple enough. I will give it a go when I can find a 2litre breaking in the area.

yeah i thought all SE's had disks all around

the 1.6 doesn't have discs, nor do the 1.6 SE models, I know this as we have one sittin in the drive

gtd 2000 had to ruin it for me spoilt sport

i have bought my gen2 coupe 2001 about 3weeks ago now and ive relised one of my rear disc were gone... so i orderd some from a local auto store... when i had them fitted one of the calipers were not working right so i had wnet to teh scrap yard... and evry 1.6 gen2 coupe i had found only had rear drums instead of discs... then sumone had told me the calpers on my 1.6 coupe are from a 2.0... why is that?

Funny thing is if you look on eBay etc you can get listings for Hyundai Coupe 1.6 calipers, discs and pads all over the place....I suspect the earlier cars might have been drums only but the end of the model series were probably "parts bin specials" to use up surplus parts etc?
