Had the ones in my footwell a while now, LED strips, flexible and thin £20 from local Car Shop. Bought another pair today, and stuck them under the doors. I then wired it up the A Pillar and to the interior light where i spliced it in. So now they come on when i open the door.

Nope nothing can be seen when there off. The drivers footwell LED needs moving further under as you can see it when its on but i need some 3M pads.

The footwell LED's are just plugged into the Cig lighter socket but had to do a bit of modifying to get the ashtray lid to shut while they were plugged in. The ones under the doors are wired up to the interior light so only come on when i open the doors.

Wanted to wire them to the door lights but couldnt work out how to do it best.

Here you go Hig, picture underneath in day light. The strip is 2-3mm thin so cant be seen at all, especially since the door car goes a little further down that the door.

To save going up the A-Pillar, could they not be wired to the red light on the door ?

I want to do the same on my SIII but dont fancy pulling the A-pillar out etc

Surely its all part of the fun..... well until you wire something up and your car sets on fire!!!

:aargh

(note, I have never wired something up badly and set my car on fire!! )

i haven't done this in 2 years! but i used this for help (stay away from the forum though):

i'm sure you know about resistor values though right? because you have to harness at least 4 X 3mm LED's so that the correct voltage is retained and the LED's don't dim/overheat/burn out. i did mine in pairs. 2 LED's per side for RPM and MPH = 8, 3 for Fuel and 3 for Temp. i connected the pairs to closest left and right pos/neg terminals, totalling 14 LED's.

basically you take that clear plastic reflector panel and make the needle hole larger by melting it out. then you take the 3mm LEDs, bend the wires 90 degrees. from the back of the panel you place the LED's into the hole where the light is supposed to emit. it will line up flat with the surface (go too far and your needle will hit it when it moves). you can use E6000 or some "industrial craft adhesive" to glue the terminals to the panel for a super strong silicone adhesion (silicone is easy to remove if needed. any other glue such as hot glue sucks). use a trial and error process to align the light. the needle has a clear square on the back. you want to align the LED's so they hit the track of the square. bend the LED's to where you think light should hit.

it's easier than it sounds but as long as you know how to connect them and connect the resistors, the rest is cake. i was new to this, but i did get a lot of good help online.

here's how the needles looked before i got rid of the blue.

by the way, your lights look a little faded for LED's. looks like you didn't take out the diffusion plastic (brown inserts) in your center console and if you did you got a low temp rating or something of the kind. the diffusion crap slides right out and voila, beaming!
