hi guys
thought id show you what ive been up to.
firstly after doing those side lights i decided the head lights needed to be the same brightness and colour. so i got myself a set of hids. they look fantastic and where really easy to fit. took me anout 30 minuters total. seen as i had some more time i decided to give the engin bay a bit of a clean up. havent gone to far yet just polished up some of the induction tubes ect. already looks much better. still got a way to go though.

they look cool...but, am i going insane? I thought they were illegal? I'm confused, i've seen loads of people going on about getting them yet the sticky says they are illegal...whats the deal with them...is there a loophole or something?

no they are legal. its down the how bright they are. some kits are way to bright and blind other drivers. you need to get the correct brightness. i got mine from jd rides and they are road legal.
if all hids were not legal you wouldnt get them from stock on jags ec.

No i know stock are legal, it was specifically down to converting to HIDs according to the topic. Something to do with levelling/alignment etc.

As Retis said, it is down to the fact that with aftermarket kits you hit bumps and they don't adjust down like BMW ones do, so you end up blinding everyone (I think that is what it was anyway lol!)

yeah thats the one. Cheers Hig. So these are technically illegal then, if you get a picky MOT inspector or copper.

the light "source" is not part of the mot as long as it's aligned right and of the correct brightness.

ah ok, so it's just a case of if you got pulled and fully inspected.

edit: Just realised it;s only the conversion thats illegal. If you install new units its ok.

the likleyhood of it being checked if you're doing it propper (right temperature/colour/alignment/passed mot) is slim.. the reason the aftermarket ones are illegal is there are so many monkies with blue ones which are blinding light and pointed in random directions.

yeah just brished up properly, it seems a high percentage of the aftermaket kits or even full replacement units are illegal, even when people are told they are legal.

Have to be self levelling and have to have washer on them. Bottom line is if not they are not legal. Although as you said, unless they are the wrong colour etc it's unlikely you'd be done for it.

Steve I need to re-do yours. I literally had less than 2 hours to mount that. lol and i did it at around 9pm. lol

lol didnt do a bad job though. although sounds like a nut has come off inside because it rattles around around when driving lol drives me nuts!

that could explain the oil pressure. will look this saturday fella

i was gonna do hid's but my mot tester told me they are cracking down on it and he says the aftermarket kits lighting pattern is all wrong,they can spot them a mile away and are failing them left right and centre now.put me right off tbh
