Decided that the grubby old thing that I have lying abouts needed a good old clean up.....

If you want to do it, then you will need:

Power drill with wire spinny chimney sweep thing

Lots of sandpaper, from wood 100 grit to 1200 wet and dry

Bit of metal polish

Elbow grease

Cigerettes, and beer.

Anyhow, I didnt do it all, as most of it you wont see - please excuse the rubbish mobile phone quality pics, but i thought for £0 and a bit of suck and see it was something different... sort of

Just to note - these end up as smooth as glass - the drill removes most of it, but for the finer side of things its handwork all the way. I wrapped sandpaper round a block also for aid. Takes about 4 hours in total

top work there mate i know how hard it is to polish the intake as i bought a metal one for my accent and polished it mayself aswell as removing all the casting lines etc please have a look.

Ahhh, Screw it... What else would I be doing......

Unplug the loom for the injectors, disconnect the hoses (watch for fuel spillage), disconnect throttle cable and cruise (if you have it) and anything else I may have forgotten. Undo the 2 bolts securing the inlet plenum to the block (there is a bracket/bracing) and then undo the nuts securing the plenum to the head. Then lift it away.

You may well muller the gasket, so best sort a new'un before you do this. Or use instant gasket, theres no pressure there so it'll be fine.

Refitting is a reverse of removal. The removal/refitting would take a couple hours, polishing??? up to you...

Busted the exhaust cam sprocket - so luckily rik mate i DID buy your engine - because the cams are currently being posted up to them.... for the cam chain gears!

Was gonna get the car back tomoro, but now delayed Tuesday or Wednesday now..... fingers crossed!

aah cheers man - yeah its well worth the effort - just after the wheel spinny thing dont be tempted to go in with a hardcore wood sandpaper like p100 etc - as it'll put deep scores in that take much more effort to get out later on. It'd be good if i can have a look on the 28th if youre coming?

so far ive only done an hour or so with steal wool and a hard steal brush on the drill and its pretty shiny. having trouble getting that really smooth shiny effect. lack of funds has stopped me at the moment but tomorrow is pay day so ill be off to get some more bits. im thinking of spraying it blue when its done too. seems it would fit well as my engin bay is getting more and more blue in it.
