Hey guys.
I drive a 03 evo 8. i recently bought it on Monday. OK so on Wednesday morning, I woke up to find that my evo does not move. I would put it in 1st gear, and the car would sit still. I even let go of the clutch, and the car does not stall, shake, or anything, it just sits there. I also noticed the night before, when i was driving it, I noticed that the car used less clutch to move, and every time i shifted to 2nd gear and I would press the gas, the car would start high revving and after 3 seconds it move go faster. Please tell me now whats wrong guys.

(Split from other thread as was in the wrong place. Cheers Dodge)

Sounds like major clutch slip. If the cars had a hard life (and being an evo its got a damn good chance, lets be honest) then a new clutch is probably in order.

If you can put it in gear and let the clutch fully out and the engine doesnt stall, and if the bite is right at the top of the pedal these are signs of excessive clutch wear.

Also when driving in gear, if you press the pedal, the revs rise fast but car doesnt physically gain speed or the revs get high then the car sort of "drags" itself to a faster speed then again, sign of the clutch slipping due to excessive wear.

Would it not serve you better to join a Mitsubishi forum?

as above a knackered clutch and as rik says i hope you have deep pockets as the majority of these have been imported and iff it is you can bet your bottom dollar it will have a race style padel clutch wich involves replacing with standard clutch and also replacing the flywheel as it wont match the padel style, also make sure its done by a compitent technician there not the easiest as the clutch is operated on a pull and not push method and ive seen techs actually brake the bell housing trying to remove the gearbox.i have worked on 100s of these cars so i hope i no what im saying and hope it helps
cheers steve

Yep it sounds like the clutch has had it.

The clutch went on my mate's car years ago, it was so funny, it was a really old Fiesta. The clutch had been slipping for a while but he didn't have the money to get it fixed so left it. One day approaching a crossroads at speed to turn right (no filter) he pressed the brakes... nothing, tried to shift down to slow the car... nothing. He had to career around to the right with no control other than steering. Up we went onto the pavement, across some grass, through a bush, just missing a building, back across more grass, back over the pavement and back onto the road - whereby the clutch found a miniscule of life again enough to get us home (the brakes also found enough second wind to let us live too lol).

Looking back it was hilarious but I've rarely been so terrified - at least yours gave out on your drive but surely you must have been noticing something was wrong for a while?

I wonder what reason the seller gave for selling, I bet it wasn't "I've been noticing the clutch slipping and can't afford ro get it changed". Anyone can afford to buy an EVO not many can run them properly ;)
