budget was 2-3k, but she wanted to spend closer to 2k than 3k, i found a lovely getz for 3.5k and would of used her 106 as £500 part ex, but she didnt want the stretch on her credit card. it was an 05 plate 1.5 tdi 3 cylinder with 79k. but she didnt want the hassel of traveling 40 miles to get it and taking the 106 minus exhaust front section which fell of last week to them. so had a search through some local garages today, saw an 03 fiesta but was tarred with smoke fumes and stains inside and was up for 3k. that would of won if it werent for the smelly interior. instead in the same garage was a 51 plate focus up for 2.2k got a £400 part ex on it. has done 92k parkers say it should be on 80k as an average, the inside was spotless engine was faultless and drove very smoothly. fsh very well cared for with one owner from new. the engine looks simple to work on its the 1.4 16v and is the LX spec. I dont think its bargin, but it isnt over priced and aslong as she looks after it and keeps it serviced it should give her 50mpg as she mostly does motorway/dual carriage driving andnot cause any problems for afew years yet. just hope whe dont crash it like the last tidy car i found her.

Well done mate, the focus is a great car, really smooth and great to drive.

I went to the car market yesterday to help my sister get a new car and we got a 02 Astra Club 1.6, 89k on the clock, MOT till May 2010 & Tax till November 09. it was a 2 owner car with full service history, metalic blue and has a few goodies fitted. We paid £1200 including all the fees and she loves it.

Bargain of the day was a 2.0 ltr SE, 98 R reg black Gen 1, 41k, fully serviced and 1 owner from new. The car was traded into a local Honda dealerhip so they just wanted it sold to the highest bedder. It had no MOT or Tax but came with full service history and you could tell it had been owned by an elderly person because it had been serviced every year regardless of mileage. I ran really sweet and the bodywork was immaculate, not 1 bit of rust anywhere. I was trying to get my sister to go for it and she was really tempted but it just wasn't practical. Shame really because it sold for £350.......Yep, that's right, £350. It would have probably sailed through the MOT and I could see my sister was gutted she never bid. The sad thing is that it will probably end up on a dealers forcourt for £1799.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Paul especially as you hate Astra's so much but I just thought I would share :D
