This "fine" is being issued by a private company. It is totally unenforceable in law.

You can ignore it, they can do absolutely nothing.

Private parking is based on contract law, the idea is that the driver enters into a contract by parking and reading the signs. But their "fine" is a penalty clause in this contract, which are illegal. They have sent the "fine" to the registered keeper, who is not necessarily the driver at the time.

You are under no obligation to tell them anything either.

Don't phone them, or Tesco, there's no point in doing so.

You could write to them saying that:
"As the registered keeper of the vehicle, I have received your invoice. Since your alleged contract is with the driver of the vehicle, please contact the driver directly to resolve this matter. No further correspondence will be entered into. Any further correspondence received from yourselves will be deemed to be harrassment and could result in legal action."

That's a big to them

let's not f*** about here it's £40 and the hassles a company can cause you including constant phonecalls, home visits, court threats etc is not worth the hassle... before you write it off, research your options, dont just listen to heresay on forums

thanks for all the advice guys and having read all the articles I know im being screwed by these big companies who havent got a leg to stand on but I have to agree with dupleman and LiDL for the sake of £40 and the hassle involved with trying to get out of it I think im just gonna pay it and just live and learn. Kind of annoyed with myself for letting them get away with it but I just havent got the energy to fight it.

Atleast ill remember to look out for signs and the such and be sure never to park on a white line again, that way if anything like this ever happens again ill be defo in the right.

I'm in the same situation at the moment with UKPC. I had a permit in my car on show at my flat car park yet they fined me. i provided photographic evidence it was on show permanently and they ignored it. They said I then had 1 week to pay the fine (even tho I still had 12 days :S)

I recieved my 'final warning' 2 weeks ago but have heard nothing back after quoting a couple of laws if you like, and stated any further harassment would result in legal action towards them.

I'm being threatened with legal action by UKPC and their 'debt collctors' because of this too. Its on private land and as such they can do f*** all no matter what 'proof' they have.

I have contacted lawyers over this too and their advice is simple - ignore them.
