pulled the handbrake @ 90  WTF!?! you (ah-hem, "your friend" got a death-wish?)

if it was dark you "should" be ok (if you were driving towards them then your headlights would have probably blinded out your numberplate) - but no way to be sure... if you've not heard anything in 2 weeks you should be fine...

i think the rule of thumb is being allowed to get away with 10% - so 77mph (but dont quote me). "if" you were doing about 85-90 on the speedo then chances are you were actually going about 78-85 anyway... so, if it was a quiet road you should have been able to get away with it - unless the bobbies were desperate to up their numbers...

(what i hate about this speed-camera nanny-system - far prefered "proper" policing. yeah, a pain if you get pulled over, but at least there's none of this "did i get caught" worry for a fortnight crap)

It looked like they were sitting in the car they were in, it was like a jeep not a van.

i also think my mate got away with it also macker. Now i think of it, i couldn't see anyone out the car, it was a merc jeep not a big van with them sticking out of it like the usual and the chances of them being able to take a photo to my knowledge they don't have the equipment unless its the overhead vans in the bridges i think.

2 or 3 times ive been driving back from glasgow on the motorway and seen coppers on the bridge when doing about 85 90.I think they expexct it and are only looking for drivers doing daft speeds 100 plus.Like the previous post so long as you were slowing down when they saw you i doubt they would have enough for a conviction.

Why they sit on a motoway in the middle of nowhere with light traffic trying to nic speeders is beyound me .They should concentrate on bad drivers who cut you up, tailgate and drive like complete assh*les

the handbrake is a gradual application of the rear brakes on a 1.6 i believe, not entirely sure but a touch shouldn't be too dangerous. Certainly no more dangerous than vintage car brakes, this "person" would have used the handbrake to slow down to avoid displayin brakes lights

i dont know what the gearing is like on a 1.6 but if it was me i wouldnt use the handbrake, just slap it into like 3rd and bring the clutch up gradually but quickly... soon slow down without brake lights (as im assuming the handbrake is to slow the car without showing blatant guilt)... then once you passed them you got the power instantly available to get back up to your mates "cruising speed" again :p
