Insurance renewal time is coming around and I got a new low qote from Open and Direct (my existing insurance broker) for a total cost of £500. I thought I would remind them of my mods to the car so

Lexus Lights - No Additional Cost
18" Alloys - No Additional Cost
CAI - No Additional Cost
Strut Brace Bars - got silence followed by whats that. I went on to explain that there are a bar fitted front and rear much like antiroll bars designed to stabilise the car on the road. They do not effect the performance just improve handling. So the girl had to phone me back while she tried AXA insurance. couple of minutes later gets a phone call to say AXA say those strut braces are modifing the suspension, their technical department aren't happy with them so you can't be insured. I explained to the girl that these are a stock item fitted to the car in other countries and you could proberly buy them direct from Hyundai if you wanted or get them in any decent car shop. So she went away again to speak with AXA and all the other insurace companies they are brokers for and nothing, with the bars fitted the car is uninsurable.

So anyone else with these fitted on here actually got insurance and if so who with. To top it off I get a kickin from the wife for having something she now sees as dangerous and illegal fitted to the car.

Any help would be great.

yup, had fun and games with mine originally...

1 insurance company said they were unsure what they were, didn't have a category on the computer for them, so classed it as a roll-cage (resulting in horrific quote).

another wanted to know the bhp gain from them - so no idea what they thought strut-braces were and how they were being entered on the computer as...

ironic that they make the car safter, if anything...

m8, just phone an insurance company that knows cars - might not be the cheapest you'll find, but will be sooo much more understanding about the mods if, god forbid, you had to make a claim.

try Adrian Flux or Sky (not linked with the tv company, dont worry). Both give discounts for members club, so remember to state that. A lot of us are with them.

right i just got a quote on my evo, today 4 years no claims agreed valuuation of 3500 with 1600 pounds of mods all i have to do is send in the pics of the mods the cost 326 and a 200 excess 60 pound windscreen not bad eh!!!!! so im smiling lol was done through herts ins surance there a bit slow at getting back but was worth the wait!!!!!!!!!!!!11
