Hi guys,

So the biggest issue I've got with my gen 1.6FX is a slightly worrying habit of locking the keys in it. I never had this problem with my old Company Vectra because it had remote central locking.

Having scanned the site I figure my best option for remote locking is to buy

plus extra fob

and

Which comes to £71.97 inc VAT and fit it myself.

I've got a couple of questions.

1. How hard is is to fit this sort of kit (i.e. removing door panels and the like)

2. Does anyone have any other (better) suggestions (bearing in mind that the remote locking is the important bit rather than the alarm)

Cheers

Gareth.

You can get a much better Toad job for that sort of money. Check out ebay.

For £50ish? (don't forget I still need central locking fitting at £20ish)

The only one I found for under £60 had bit missing and wires cut to length for the guys car.

I did find

or

Both of which do what I want for under £30.

Always weary of ebay though.

What do you guys think? :?:

I've fitted a couple of those Maplin/Shark alarms on other cars and they're very good. Unbeatable for the price I think. As good as my Cat 1 Cobra as far as day-to-day 'real life' effectiveness is concerned (better from a radio range point of view). Good 'warn away' feature in response to slight knocks too.

Incidentally, it comes with two keyfobs in case you thought you needed a seperate second fob.

Thanks for the replies.

I had a look last night at how hard it is to remove the door panel and after some struggle with a VERY tight popper I got the panel free. However.......

The wiring for the window/mirror controls is very short and the panel only comes out about 4~5 inches. Is this right? Am I missing something? Is there a plug or do the wires need disconnecting?

Secondly, there is a membrane of some sort between the panel and the outer skin (looks like paper but I assume it's water proof). It looks like any wiring would need to be fed behind this. Can this be done without removing/cutting this membrane? If not, .... er help? :)

Cheers,

Um... forget the bit about the membrane; a bit of reading leads me to believe that it peals away (and I assume therefore sticks back afterwards), and the actuator goes below that anyway.
