Mine went on my gen1 - I got the dealer to replace it, cost about £70 inc fitting.

Hi Mate

I'd also recommend getting someone to try the washers while you hold a multimeter on the motor contacts - I spent an hour on a friend's Escort before replacing a washer motor only to find out it was absolutely fine, but one of the wires had become trapped behind a bolt and had been cut through :(

After all the effort replacing the motor, all it had needed was a quick bit of soldering and it was all good again, never even should've needed to open the bonnet.

Good luck!
O.

Thanks chaps.

I spent an hour or so yesterday and thanks to your advice it all went pretty well. As I knew the motors were turning it was likely the filters were blocked.

Indeed they were, simply removed the motors and took out the filters. Got the jet washer to clear out any slime which had got through the filters. I also took out the water reservoir and jet washed the inside of that - there was lots of slime built up in that too.

Also jet washed through the tubing to force out any slime which was restricting them.

Put it all back together and it works perfectly.

Super.

I've got exactly the same problem, but I can't figure out how to take the motor/filter out to clean it. I can take out the indicator and see the motor, but there isn't enough room to get a screwdriver in there and take it out, which brings me to the other question; how is the motor attached, is it with screws?

Thanks.

It's just held in by a rubber gromet hence if you, or someone else, can get an arm in it's merely a case of giving the motor a tug!

Aha! I will give it a go this weekend, when its bright outside.

If its only got a grommet, won't the water all flood out when I pull the motor out? Or is there some kind of valve keeping the water in the bottle in?

I've heard the back and the front washers are on different motors, can I be sure I'm pulling out the right one?

The water will indeed rush out... although you can take advantage of this by shoving a hose in the top and giving the bottle a thorough wash out as this itself can be the cause of many problems.

With regards to motors, yes, they use a seperate one - you could always pull the plug from one of them and test the washers and you'll soon work out which is which.

I'd be inclined to take them both out anyway as if it's crap in the gauze filter that's causing the problems odds are the other will benefit from cleaning too.
