Hey,

Just got some second hand leathers today for my gen1,
Theres a small spilt about an inch long on the drivers seat on the corner, whats the best way to treat this, is it worth trying to sew it up? Also around the split the colour has kinda faded, any tips on how to bring the colour round?

Also do i need to treat the leather frequently, if so wot with???

Thanks :)

Get hold of some CopyDex glue (the thick white stuff us old ones used to have at school!)
Get a small piece of leather to slip under the split area. Use a generous spread of the glue on this new piece and insert it in and under the split. The good thing about copydex is that you can wipe it straight off if (when!) you get it all over the seat. give it a few minutes to get tacky and give the split edges a wiggle to get the best possible match between sides.

Now, of the split is on teh grey part, I cant really help as I have never seen a good grey boot polish, but if it is on the black part, use some kitchen roll to finely blend in some boot polish over the split. just over the split, dont try and polish the whole seat!
Once you are happy with teh blending, use some Saddle Soap (available at most good leatherwear stockists or horsetack shop/saddlary) to give the area a protective coat. Make sure you use cloth or kitchen roll, do not use brushes on the seats.

re-dying leather is a nightmare.
You would be better off going to a re-upholsterer and getting the seat compltly re-done with new leather.
Have a go with the copydex and try using neutral polish for the blending in. you will be surprised at how good a copydex repair looks and may decide you dont need to do anything else.

To get the faded leather back ot black use some scuff cover that you get for kids shoes, let it dry for a day then polish it with a spray polish like pledge to remove the excess.
