My Alpine has a direct Ipod cable at the back for full control and charging of ipod/iphones. Im thinking of trying to get it to fit under the plastic gear surround and into the arm rest console. Ive searched for previous topics but only found ones for siii's. Will i come across any difficult obstacles in a gen 3? or will it all just pull up nicely for a cable to fit under?

when we ran some wiring it faz's 3.5 we managed to run the wiring from the cig lighter, under the centre console and into the arm rest console bit by just removing the bottom plate out of there, you should be able to push it through without taking the centre console out (you will however have take the gear surround out lol!), we managed it and it wasn't too bad, if you can't fit it through (cos I can't remember exactly) then just lift it up a bit to give you a bit more room, but should be ok :thumbup

(you can just run it along one side of the centre console, should be a cable running down one side you can run it along with)

:yeahthat

The bottom plate of the inside of the arm rest lifts out to reveal the handbrake adjuster, and the gear surround can be pulled out by unscrewing the gear knob and pulling up on the leather part (it can be quite stiff). you can run a cable from behind the stereo, down behind the dash into the gear surround and up into the arm rest.

Keep it to one side to avoid the handbrake mechanism and the gear linkages, but there's nothing in there that will stop you from running the cable through

thats great thanks guys, guess what im doing at the weekend then! Ive got another arm rest floor which i am going to neatly drill a hole into for the cable. Will i need to stick the cable to the centre surround to avoid contact with moving parts?

you should be fine if you run it to one side, tbh, not much will happen if it comes in contact with the handbrake or gear linkage as it should only rub in theory, BUT, just run it down one side, like i said, there should be wiring running inside some yellow cable tidy stuff so you could cable tie your wire to that if you want to be safe ...
