Does anyone know how to replace the front wiper motor on a G1 coupe SE?

I have removed the old motor and there is a white plastic socket joint on the end of the linkage which hooks up to a metal ball on the motor arm. I can't for the life of me work out how to get it back in, as I removed it with brute srength and ignorance!

I can't just force it back on as I can't keep the plastic linkage rod in place with enough force to stop it pushing back into the bulkhead.

Any help would be gratefully accepted email smeagher£me.com (replace the £ with the obvious)
