So would one of these scan tools be suitable?



Any ideas on getting the Gen 1 wheel to fit with the different connectors - i'm hesitant to start splicing wires at this point in time - even with the battery disconnected

If you've got a Gen 2 then that machine will read the EOBD engine codes (anything starting P0***). It probably wont read manufacturer specific engine codes. It probably wont read codes from other electronic systems such as CAN, SRS, ABS, immobiliser, etc either.

You can change the connector for the pyrotechnic inflator on the back of the airbag, but it MUST be soldered and heatshrink protected, not connected with splices or lucars or anything else. The deployable components are current operated by the SRSCM, not voltage (around 80 amps current to deploy which is enough to kill you for a start off) and the method of fault code recognition is based on a voltage drop through a very specific circuit resistance.

So with all this in mind whip off your battery earth and steering wheel and have fun

So I see a brown and blue wire that goes to the actual air bag - common colours on both wheels from what I can see so far...

It appears I'd need to swap the connectors over/cut re-solder wires for that.

The next problem is that the horn push has completely different coloured wiring - perhaps I should get some photos...

I'll hopefully get a chance to pop in to two local garages to see if they know about resetting the air bag light.

Well I got all the connections soldered and working today. (well actually only the right horn button is working but I an check that out tomorrow )

Will be popping along to the local garage to see if they can reset the SRS warning light - I was advised that when the Air Bag light is illuminated then the airbags won't work - is that the case?

Can anybody tell me where they should be looking to plug in their scan tool to reset the Air Bag warning light?
