Its my birthday on Saturday and my parents bought me a pair of really nice universal leather bucket seats! Collected them last nite and had a go at fitting this morning! ive come across what i would call a slight problem! I got the existing seat off with no hassle(ish) and figured out how the universal rails attach to the bucket seats etc! Not soo much luck fitting them!

Im glad I listened to common sense by trying the passenger seat first! So on the passenger side seat the issue's are. The left rail (closest to the door) lines up with both holes but there is about a 1.5 inch height difference between the hole at the front and the back. The second and more serious issue is the right hand rail lines up with the front hole but then the bakc hole is about 1.5 inch further right (closer to the center) than the front hole!

On the standard seats there is a 'metal bracket looking thing' that attaches to the rails and then in turn to the car. I looked at removing the whole slider rail from the standard and fitting it to the new seats but becuase of the way the standard seat is made its not gonna fit! I also looked at removing the 'metal bracket looking thing' from each corner but they are attached with what look like really odd almost rivet almost screws, but they have no heads to turn them with!!!!!!

Im leaving the seat out in the passengers side today as i have no need for it today but i need it on saturday! I have no rear seats either atm!

Has anyone fitted bucket seats to a gen 2 before, does anyone know a kit I can buy that has the right pieces, or does anyone know any good fabricators that can make the adapters for a reasonable price based in Hamphire or the near area?

Thanks In advance for any help!

here are the pics of me aluminium plates:

This one is just underneath so you can see how the seat is on the plate (with the rollers that came with the seats on)

You can see the bend on this one, that is for the front right bolt.

I'm with you on that one LiDL, you have an accident and the seat would rip right out of there

you can't Daz, the rails are odd, so three of the brackets that connect to the seat are level and then one of them goes up into the seat, so they wont connect to the new seats at all, they're a complete pain.

Ok.. back on track ladies and gentlemen, I think we all agree (well majority anyway) that the aluminium plate is a bad idea, so what you need to do is look into getting a piece of steel made to adapt the holes that wont fit to extend the subframe (I'll tell you now there is no universal subframe for the gen1/2 as I looked into it for my 1.6) if you go to a custom fabricators they will probably do what youre after for about £20-30 specially if 3 out of the 4 will fit.. if you pick up theblower and the yellow pages you should be able to find somewhere local :)

make sure you use the right size bolts and if possible the same ones you took off as they have been tested and are made of pretty strong stuff.
