My factory alarm on my Hyundai Coupe SE (2002) has started going off whilst I'm driving. I can't pull the fuse as the fuse for the factory alarm also controls the indicators. I've pulled out a cable near to where the noise comes from, and I think that stopped it, but I've read that these alarms have their own power supply so disconnecting it from the battery may not have worked. I also don't know what else that cable is for, and don't particularly want to drive around with an unknown part of my car disconnected.

Does anyone know how to actually remove or properly disable the factory alarm on this car?

And also, if my alarm goes off whilst I'm driving, is it actually illegal to drive like that?

Its not illegal to drive without it working, but your insurance company wont pay out if it gets stolen and they find out etc.

Go to a hyundai dealer, they are the best to know how to fix/replace it.

EDIT: sorry just read that properly, if your alarm is going off while driving and you do nothing about it, someone will think you've stolen it. And the police will do you for noise pollution.
