(Info from old forums)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

go here
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

it tells u wat tyres u should get when ur getting new alloys 2 maintain rolling radius and void probs with ur speedo.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also this is handy for calculating wheel offsets

http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/offset.html

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do I have captive rotors?

Captive rotors were only on the gen1 Coupe and not all of them had them.

Captive Rotors -
These are the 4 bolt-heads between the wheel studs.

Drilled Recesses -
The PCD of the rotor bolts is 4x100. As you can see here 4 dents have been drilled into the back of the wheels. Without these recesses the wheel will not fit flush to the hub!

These people do alloy wheels

you can search for 4x114 (or any fitment) and it will display all wheels available.

You can search by car model at

have an excellent fitment guide which tells you which of their wheels will fit

also have a fitment guide

A few wheels which definitely fit a gen1 & 2 (4x114.3)

The offset for the gen1 & 2 is +42mm altho variations will fit.

The gen 3 will accept 16", 17" & 18" wheels.

Fitment is 5 x 114.3. Offset (ET) 46 - 35. Most reasonable wheel widths will fit.

Tyres for 17's - 215/45 x 17 (normally)
Tyres for 18's - 225/40 x 18 (normally)

Can I just add please...........

I've been looking around over these past weeks for a much needed new set of alloys for my Coupe.
I shan't give a day by day account of what the search went like, but I'm rather suprised after looking at some companies web-sites at their lack of responce to my questions, and one company ignoring my e-mail after deciding which wheels I wanted and I wished to order from them

Also I have found that there is conflicting advice out there.....it's safe to take the captive rotors off, and another saying it's not safe and so on. Be prepared for disappointment too. You may well have found the 'perfect' designed wheel for your Coupe, only to be told that they don't come in the size or fitment that you want.

In the end, I bought my wheels from http://www.tunershop.co.uk/ after finding them on the web.
I cannot recommend them highly enough. The guy on the other end of the telephone was very patient, knowledgable and helpful. He actually replied to my e-mails too! orlando.lott@tunershop.co.... or telephone him on...02081 232398

The style I chose fits straight on, no problem with the captive rotor bolts. Excellent quality, and good service.
As you can guess....I'm rather pleased :D :D

after scouring many sites i have compiled a list of cars that have the same PCD as the gen2, obviously I cannot vouch that the info is 100% accurate but it broadens the search for good alloys a fair bit..
as stated above some gen1's have captive rotors so althought the PCD is the same (4x114) the aloys may not fit.
