Well i bought my dotz hanzo alloys last xmas and put on 4 toyo proxes t1-r's which were 215 45 17s. In a year and doing 12k miles the front tyre edges have worn to very nearly below the legal limit, whereas the actual middle of the tyres have loads of grip! I think what has happened is that because the wheels are 8 inches wide instead of 7 the tyres had to be stretched to fit (although thats the size dotz recommend to put on) leaving hardly any edge for cornering etc

Question is...can i put 225 45 17s on to give me an extra 1cm edge or will they catch on the arches when on full lock? this is on a gen 3 v6 by the way.

oh and if it doesnt catch, will i be alright putting 2 225 45 17s on the front whilst leaving my 215 45 17s on the back?

Hi mate, 225 x 45 x 17 tyres on the front or rear will be fine and you wont get any rubbing. A mate of mine has this size of tyres fitted on each corner of his coupe with the v6 wheels and gets no rubbing at all. Oh and it sounds like your tracking is out too.

I have a new style 55 reg Passat Sport 2.0TDI. When I had the tyres replaced yesterday I noticed the two rear ones were completely smooth on the inner edges, despite having 2mm over the remaining 90% of the width. Apparently this is a common problem on the new Passats, but Volkswagen won't admit it. Does anyone else have any further information or can enlighten me in any way over this. The tyre depot have obviously seen this before, and advised to have the rear suspension settings looked at.

Sounds like Castor (or camber, can't remember which ) fault to me...
