right im looking into lightweight alloys and if there worth the money. Does anyone know the weight of the standard alloy without the tyre? if i could find this then i could calculate if the gain is worth it, apparently every 1kg of rotational weight equils loosing 10kgs of weight off the car "in acceleration terms", rota wheels claim they are about 5kgs lighter each so thats 20kgs of rotational weight witch is equil to 200kgs lost off the weight of the car, so in theroey thats about a seccond off the 0-60 time is it not? this is just a theroey any help will be appreciated.
thanks

standard gen 1 alloys are 15kg with air & tyre.

Although, as Rik says, its not noticeable - when i went up to 17's they were 19kg a wheel (tyre and air) and so that was an extra 4kg per wheel - and i noticed the best part of naff all difference. None at all....

too much torque to notice any difference. you'd get better effect taking your spare and tools, or back seats out. save your money and spend it on intake, exhaust, leads, plugs and pulleys and you'll enjoy the good side of 200bhp by all accounts which you WILL notice :thumbup

i think it all depends on how you drive to whether you would notice it at all.

it isnt just the actual weight of the wheel that you have to take into consideration its the rotational mass of them.

I am looking into some Team Dynamics 1.0s in black at the minute, 5 spoke 17"s in black, similar to the original F2 Evo alloys but with the benefit of being lightweight.

There was something i read online that a 1kg difference in weight on each wheel worked out at around 100kg in total due to the rotational mass of the wheels.

now for speed wise, bear in mind that on a 0-60, a 100kg weight saving is equal to about 0.1seconds it wont make a whole load of instantly noticeable difference

so in all would you say its more cost effective to add hp or loose weight?

Add horsepower and torque, definately - you'll end up with only a seat and a steering wheel otherwise, and still be no quicker on the road. Just deaf and uncomfortable.

I have a set of alloy wheels with Kuhmo V700 autocross tires on them that I normally use on the track. My regular wheels are alloys with Continental UHP tires and wieght 4 lbs more each. Sometimes if I'm lazy I take those to the track instead. I can definately feel the difference in the suspension trying to move that extra weight and the engine trying to turn it. For regular street driving though, not so much.
Lighter wheels mean less rotating mass for the engine to turn which allows the drivetrain to deliver more power to the road for a given throttle setting. Theoretically that should mean you have to use slightly less gas to achieve a certain speed but the amount is small. Lighter wheels also improve ride and handling as it is less unsprung weight for the suspension to have to control.
If your just trying to save money on gas, if that is your goal then don't bother. The wheels will cost you more than you will ever save in fuel economy.
