IIRC, Bob (100Scout) had a similar issue on his gen2 and that turned out to be a cracked hub. Can you feel vibration in the steering wheel?

Think he meant vibration in the steering wheel during braking. I've had a similar issue and it was a warped brake disc

Warped disk would be my guess too. Happened to mine and it sounds very similar

Mine looked fine too as far as I could see. Never looked too close at it because they were getting changed either way.

It's an easy job to do yourself really, shouldn't cost too much at a garage if you're worried about doing it yourself

check the bolts that hold the caliper carrier to the hub haven't come loose.

If you can see a warped break disk.....your not looking at the disk lol its almost impossible to see a warp

The gen2 is very very sensitive to tracking. I took it to 4 different places until I got one that could get the tracking spot on. It has to be bang on parallel otherwise you will get vibration through the steering wheel. I was surprised as, normally, close is good enough for most cars.
