If i wash the car (even just a hose down to get rid of excess dirt / winter salt) and i park my car in my garage (handbrake on & in neutral) then next day when i got to pull away there is a moment where the car resists, there is a loud ping / clunk type sound (mainly from the rear of the car and all seems OK. This doesn't happen at any other time except after washing my car. I can drive through rain and the next day it doesn't happen. It happens summer or winter. Once i get the car on the drive i can see a discoloured shape like the brake pads on the rear disks but that seems to rub off after a few miles.

Any ideas or indication of a problem? It's been doing it for the last 4 years and it passed every MOT so far (except the last one where it needed new front disks and pads)

Is it the handbrake holding on? Wet pads sticking?

pritty normal with rear disk brakes. mine does it all the time, especially with the cold weather. went to move the car yesterday and it sounded like i hit a bollard it was that loud.

Yeah dont worry about it ... its just the pads sticking to the disc's

If you don't want them to stick then just leave the handbrake off and car in gear after you've cleaned it.
