left my car parked and didnt use it for two days, spent and age getting in, clearing the frozen snow of it. by which time the car was lovely and warm inside.

released the handbrake pulled and just stayed still in wheel spin. took another 10 mins of rocking back and forth before they freed them selves.

loads of people were stood there watching thinking i was stuck on the ice at the side of the road. :o

Always best to leave in gear and forget the handbrake in the colder weather. Thats what I do, works fine ;)

Theres another thread on this, and the general advice is to leave it in gear with the handbrake off if possible. If not, then its a trip under the car with a hammer to release the spring.
Its happened to me a few times over the last 2 weeks, so i just leave it in gear. Sorted

There you go matey, its uploaded now.

Get it all greased up when the weather gets better - its about an arm length under the car, quite easy to get to. Mine is lowered like 100000000mm on the back, and i can still et it fine so should be easier on standard suspension.

Will this stop it freezing on again or do you have to get on your hands and knees to release it every time??? :shrug :shrug

release each time - then when dry/warmer, get under there, blasty with WD-40, then pack spring/mechanism with grease

You are not alone with this problem my friend.

My 03 v6 coupe was parked up for the best part of a week in the big freeze for exactly the same problem so now as its an auto box I just put it into park and leave it.

Funny thing is the coupe seemed to handle the snow and poor road conditions better than most cars of its type, it was just getting it moving.
