My 2.0 Gen3 steering wheel shudders when brakeing....

I had new front brakes put on about 6 months ago but my backs were poor and needed changing. I waited until the backs were about 90% worn and I could feel that when brakeing the steering wheel would shuddered when slowing from high speeds, as if the front brakes were doing all of the work.

When I had new brakes on though the problem still existed. I took it for a service and after all seemed to be fine again, however 10 miles or so later the shaking is back - albeit not as extreme.

Could it be to do with the power steering fluid? it was topped up on the service but levels are fine now. Or could it be the brakes are still too 'good' at the front in relation to the rear? Stopping distances don't seem anything to brag about! It's not a massive problem, but gets me a little nervous if I am doing long motorway journeys in the wet and needs to brake giving me masses of feedback, wobble through the wheel.

Anyone have any ideas or had this happen to them before?

Sounds like warped disks.

Happened to mine about a year ago. Got new disks fitted (by a very questionable mechanic). They were badly fitted and the new disks warped after a couple of hundred miles.

Got a new set of drilled and grooved disks now and everythings been fine since.

Ahh ok thanks. I shall ask to have a free brake check at another independent and see what they say then
