Were they genuine pads that contained new shims or were they aftermarket and you used the original shims?

I dont know if the pulling on the steering and the effectiveness of the brakes would be directly related.

Probably is but I would try bleeding the brakes to make sure there is no air in the system first.

If that doesn't work go to a garage and get it checked. Steering sounds pretty dangerous to me.

You need two people. First locate the bleeding nipple. Then get your mate to pump the brakes. Get him to hold in the pedal after 5 or 6 pumps, then loosen the nipple till air/fluid comes
out. Tighten it back up and repeat until no more air comes out.

Do that to all the wheels and that at least rules out air in the system.

Remember to top up the brake fluid afterwards.[/quote]
