I've searched the forums for threads on this, but I could not find anybody with the problem I'm having. So I've decided to create a new topic; I apologise if I was wrong!
I just got myself a T Reg 1.6 Hyundai Coupe (Gen 1), and am having a slight problem with my steering.
When I test drove it, I asked the dealer to fix the wheel alignment. He did so, and it was okay when I drove it next. But a day later - after I purchased it, I find that the car is drifting inexorably to the left (it's not too bad; but I have a damaged right wrist and it is a bit hard for me to keep it straight). The steering wheel does not return to the centre position, but stays slightly to the left.
I had exactly the same problem with my old Mondeo, and found out that it was the suspension wishbones + the tires. But the tires here look alright - they were replaced last year. Could it be the wishbones, or could it be something to do with the steering rack (tie rod or whatever it is called?
)? Or could it be something else totally?
It brakes in a straight line though, or rather it doesn't seem any worse than when i'm driving normally. It's not the camber of the road, as I don't have the same issue with my Escort.
How much could this cost to fix, would you know? (i.e., wishbones/tie rod/wheel bearing(?) ).
Also, there doesn't seem to be any signs of uneven wear on the tire, so I don't think the problem has been long standing.
