My spare alloy was in VERY bad shape so thought I'd have a go at refurbing it myself.

This project went a tiny bit pear shaped. Let's have a look at what went wrong.

This is after sanding down. You can probably tell how bad the wheel was before.





There weren't any cracks so didn't think there was any need for any filler. Now the primer.



Now...to re-spray. I know, I know, the masking of the tyre was very inept.







From far away, it doesn't look too bad, it's only when you take a closer look, you think "oh dear".

Ah well, never mind. It was worth a try. I''m getting it refurbed professionally next week so will put up a pic of that soon.

Looks really good from your pics. I find that gaffa-tape works well for the tyre as the masking doesnt stick at all to it. Also i would of used some newspaper to mask up the tyre.

If there is ever a next time, I will ask the local tyre shop to remove the tyre, so to avoid an embarrassment like this again!

mate its all about having a go and trying things yourself! At the end of the day if you make a balls up of it then you have it done by the pros, if you do a good job then Result... Nobodies gonna fault you for trying.
