Hammerite Smooth; Silver and Red.
Wire Wool.

Here we are:

Sorry for not having a "before" shot, but the silver section was orange with rust before painting.

Yes, I know.....I don't have any centre caps. They have ALL gone flying! :bang

Now the fronts.

Next job is to get all 5 alloys refurbed.

the scissor jack is fine, if you jack it as you should you wont have any problems, hopefully then you will have the sense not to wobble the car

That looks really nice, well done!

I see you said that there was rust on it, how did you get all the rust off? Did you just paint over it?

I am planning on doing my brakes next week but i have got alot of rust and curious what is the best way on going round it.

Oh i see. Think i'll take off 1 wheel tomorrow and take the brush too it. Will i need to take all the rust off or just enough to smoothen the surface to paint over?

just get all the loose flakey rust off, they don't have to be perfectly clean

Cheers gents.

Yeah, I used some wire wool to get rid of the rust. I was surprised how easily it came off.
What I done was released the handbrake so the disc would spin, to make it easier to get rid of the rust. Just try not to "wobble" the car! lol!

I've done 3, so just waiting on the right weather so I can get out there again to do the last one.

The tins of paint are almost untouched! Hardly any was used at all! That's after 2 coats on each!

Also Hammerite Smooth can be applied directly to rusty surfaces, so if there is still alot of rust after brushing down, then don't worry too much, just paint over it.

That looks great. How many coats did it take & how long between them? What type of paint did you use? I take it you left them on while painting too?

& what colour would people recommend doing them on a black coupe which may one day have black & silver rimmed alloys?

Sorry for all the questions but never even attempted somthing like that before.

Silver car with Yellow calibers?

I think silver would blend in with the alloys unless you have black alloys....

Jeez - lucky you weren't under it at the time!

If I have to use mine I won't put so much as a finger under the car until I've got some axel stands under there. Seems daft that in these days of not being able to tint windows, mods being declared and everything having to be regulated up to the hilt that manufacturers are still allowed to sell crappy (and nigh on dangerous) jacks with their cars.

If the car hadn't landed on the jack then, as you say, you'd have done some serious disk damage there.

Bullet dodged there matey.

Yep and i'm sticking by what i said ... you read in one place about something posted , a couple of days later the same person has posted a completely different story of the events that have happened  with this coming up ... then Lakez starting his own thread , things just dont add up ... you should have said in the new thread about changing the clutch ... not just a wheel , so we need to know for the record what you where doing wheel change/clutch :confused

Friggin site went down on me posting that last message , the thing is ... if you where doing work on your car apart from changing a wheel ... then its not the jacks fault , i dont want all the members on here spending like £50 on a jack when they are completely safe for a tyre change , so thats why i said put the record straight .
