Hi Guys,

New to the forum having recently picked up a gen one F2 that I am slowly restoring to near as dammit showroom condition. It has a great service history but has had little 'love'

My latest task is dismantling the rear brakes (or lumps of brown rust as they currently are!!) cleaning them up giving the caliper assemblies a lick of hammerite and reassembling. I am also changing the pads and disks while I am there.

Anyway I have an issue....

The Part of the Caliper Assembly that holds the pads has a seized bush. For ease if indentification I have shamelessly nicked this picture from the Alloys sticky..




I am referring to the part painted red in this image. Those familiar with the part will know there are two travellers on the back of this that the piston assembly bolts to that move back and forth to allow the caliper to apply pressure to the outer pad while the piston presses against the inner pad. On of these travellers is siezed (rusted in place - whoever put it in didn't grease it!!), meaning I am only using one pad on my rear passenger side.

Does anyone know what the part number of this assembly is called and where the best place to get one is. I need the whole part includeing the travellers, I am having a real job finding one...

i think that may be a job for a whole new caliper im afraid. However, before doing that take off the rubber boot that hides the sliding pin and SOAK it in Easy-free or something similar (like powerful WD-40) and the sliding pin should become free - then re-grease up very well and get all the crap out and you should be ok

That, or place in a vice and turn it with some mole grips to get it free - last resort, but should work - i cant see you needing a new caliper for that....
