Hehe, thanks for the feedback, and I'm not the type to wave around my e-pen1s stating what a good driver I am, but yeah, have driven in snow for many years in a few different countries, for extended periods of time, and in a few different vehicles....fook, ok, I'll zip it back up :) And at 36 I'm probably an old fart compared to a lot of you guys ;)

My comments were valid and honest however, and so were my questions, and thanks for the feedback, it's given me a little more confidence in my current ABS system, which I thought wasn't right (used to drive a honda prelude and integra both with abs which felt a little better as the feedback through the pedals didn't seem as harsh as the coupe)...

Anyhow, thanks again for the feedback.

The only thing is though, with ABS in the snow, and an emergency situation occurs, it is believed it can be better to lock the brakes, which causes a build up of snow under the front wheels and slows you down more effectivly. ABS will prevent you from doing this.

Of course the flipside to this is that you don't drive like a muppet and don't put yourself in a situation where you need to slam the brakes on!

As above though, I wouldn't mess with the ABS system as it's dangerous, and will invalidate your insurance probably, however in fresh snowy conditions I prefer my Peugeot 306 (None ABS) braking wise, when it's slush then the Fiat with ABS get's used!

PS None ABS isnt the only reason, the skinnier tyres help also in thick snow!

Yeah, we've experienced wheels locking but instead of all drivers relying on ABS I think we should be taught to pump the brakes. I used to find in my old micra (lol, I know!) I could pretty much tell exactly when the wheels were about to lock and you only push the brake to that sweet spot just before the wheels begin to lock.
In theory 4 wheels braking hard but not locked will stop a car faster than ABS because at any time only two wheels at a time are braking.
I suppose true emergency situations just cause people to stomp on the brakes as hard as they can as it's instincual. And ABS does mean you can steer whilst braking hard.

Anyway back to the topic! I just feel the ABS is way too sensitive and too easily triggered by a bit of gravel or a bump. And when it does kick in it doesn't have the stopping power I want.
