I'm having a bit of a problem with my car concerning the brakes. The handbrake warning light doesn't disappear at all, whether the handbrake is on or not. I thought it might be a problem with the sensor but i read the manual and it's also a warning light concerning the brake fluid level.

I checked the brake fluid level a few days ago so i don't think it's that, but i will check again in a second. Is there anything else i can do? I have to go back to university tomorrow which is a 240 mile drive, is it safe to do so with the brake warning light on?

I think that light comes on if you have a fault with your ABS too, you haven't had any work done on it recently, like a rear wheel bearing or anything because I seem to remember a thread about the number of teeth on non Hyundai bearings being different.

If your fluid is ok then I think if the light is on your ABS is OFF which would be ok to drive for a little while, but I doubt your insurance company would look kindly in the case of an accident, if they could prove it of course ;)

Hopefully it's just the handbrake switch, but I have no idea where that is or how to sort it but I'm sure some of the ever helpfull guys on here will be able to tell you about that.

I tried checking the brake fluid level, can barely see it so i have no idea if it's got any in or not. The brakes are fine btw.

POING: If it was the ABS, surely the ABS light would be on?

[edit]

Funnily enough it had been in the garage yesterday, getting a new AC condensor fitted. The light was on immediately after i picked it up, i took it back to them and they couldn't do anything....

Oops sorry thought they were one and the same light, mental picture of dash not as good as I remember then lol

Would say handbrake switch then, but does seem odd that it's only happened since it came out of the garage, but can't see how they would be connected with what you had done. Have you checked the fuse ?

Cool, at least it was nothing too costly and nothing actually wrong with the brakes. I guess at this time of year dirt is going to be a problem. Wish my car would stay clean for more than 5 miles. The remote central locking on the girlfriends Almera has stopped working with either remote so I'm thinking something similar with that too. :)
